How to Link Aadhaar Number, Mobile Phone Using IVR for Re-Verification

The ongoing Aadhaar-mobile SIM card re-verification process has just become a little easier for people across the country. Consumers can now simply dial a central number, regardless the network, to link their mobile number with Aadhaar number. This will bring a sigh of relief for consumers across the country, who only had the option to visit offline stores run by their operators to link the two till now. Now, they can use the IVR service from their homes instead, cutting out the hassle involved in going to physical outlets. Consumers have till February 6 to link their mobile number with Aadhaar.

How to link Aadhaar with mobile phone number

If you want to re-verify your phone number by linking it to Aadhaar, the process is rather simple. You just need to keep your Aadhaar number at hand. Whether you are on Airtel, Idea, Jio, and Vodafone or any other operator, you simply need to call the toll-free number 14546 from the phone number. Follow these steps, as directed by the IVR, to complete the re-verification process.

1. When you call 14546, you will be asked to select whether you are an Indian national or an NRI by selecting the respective option
2. Next, you will have to give consent to link Aadhaar with your phone number by pressing 1
3. After that, you need to provide your Aadhaar number and press 1 to confirm
4. This step generates the OTP, which you will receive on your mobile phone
5. Now, you need to enter your phone number
6. Here, you are asked to give consent to your operator to pick your name, photo and date of birth from UIDAI data base
7. The IVR now mentions the last four digits of your number to confirm that you have keyed in the right number
8. If the number is correct, you can enter the OTP you received on SMS
9. You must press 1 to complete the Aadhaar-mobile number re-verification process
10. If you hold another phone number, you can link that too by pressing 2 and following the steps provided by the IVR system. Keep your other mobile phone handy as you will receive the OTP on this number.

The OTP you receive for Aadhaar-mobile phone re-verification is valid for 30 minutes, so you can use it even there is some network glitch and the call terminates prematurely. Subscribers who are on corporate plans do not need to need to undergo the re-verification process. So far, Airtel, Idea, and Vodafone have activated the service. Since Jio takes Aadhaar number to activate the SIM card, subscribers do not need to re-verify on the network, a customer care executive told

Smartron has launched the t.phone P in India as its newest model under the t.phone range. The new smartphone comes with a price tag of Rs. 7,999 and will be exclusively available through Flipkart. The first flash sale will begin on January 17 at 12 noon. Smartron is also offering 1TB free cloud storage via its t.cloud service.

The dual-SIM (Nano) Smartron t.phone P runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat and comes with a full metal body. The smartphone features a 5.2-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) IPS display and is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 SoC with four processing cores at 1.4GHz and the other four cores at 1.1GHz, coupled with 3GB of RAM. It has a 13-megapixel camera sensor on the rear with f/2.2 aperture and an LED flash, while a 5-megapixel, fixed-focus, f/2.2 aperture-equipped secondary camera sensor is available on the front along with a low-light flash. There are preloaded features such as Beautify, HDR, Panorama, Time Lapse, and Burst mode alongside a selfie-centric Wide Selfie to accompany the available camera hardware.

Smartron has provided 32GB onboard storage on the t.phone P that is expandable via microSD card (up to 128GB) that comes in a hybrid dual-SIM configuration. In terms of connectivity, the smartphone has 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS/ A-GPS, and Micro-USB with OTG support. Sensors on board include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, and proximity sensor. How to Book an Uber or Ola Cab Without the App

When you need to take a cab, you probably pull your phone out and start the Ola or Uber app (depending on which one you prefer), and make your booking. But if you're sitting in front of your PC in the office, you don't actually need to take the extra step, and can book your cab without pulling out your phone.

It's actually easy to book a cab from your computer using just the web browser, and Ola officially supports desktop bookings while for Uber, you need to make use of one simple trick to make it work for you. Here's what you need to know, along with a few other useful tricks that make using Uber from your PC a breeze.

How to book Uber without phone app

Booking an Uber without a phone is equally simple, but there is one extra step you need to know, because the Uber website on desktop doesn't let you book a cab. Instead, you have to use the mobile website. Here's how it works.

1. On your PC, open the browser and go to m.uber.com
2. On the next screen, you're prompted for your phone number, and then your password.
3. Next, you'll receive an OTP on your phone, and once you enter that, you go to the booking page. This was a one-time affair and the next time you need to book a cab, you won't need to sign in again.
4. Once you've signed in, there will be a prompt to use location services. You can enable this or disable it, and then you're taken to the booking screen.
5. Here, enter your pickup and drop location.
6. You'll see the trip in the map below, along with the various cab options, the fare estimates, and the time to pickup. The payment method will be listed below that, and then the request button.
7. Click on request and Uber books the cab, and you're good to go.

Uber app for Windows
Apart from these little workarounds, there's an even simpler way to book an Uber if you're using a Windows PC. There is an official Uber app, the works on Windows 10 devices. It uses your location and can be used to book a car.

The experience of using the app is pretty much the same as described above though, so it might be quicker to just use the browser based version. However, if you want to use the app and have a Windows 8 laptop or tablet, you can download Uber from the Microsoft Store for free.

Ola also has a Windows 10 application, but it's only compatible with Windows 10 Mobile, and so won't work on your laptop or desktop computer.

Uber app for Mac
There's no Uber app for Mac users, but there is an app called Fastlane you can use to book an Uber from your Apple PC. Like the official app, Fastlane is also free, and sits in the menu bar of your computer so it's just one button click away.

Once you click on it, you need to type in your pickup and drop locations, and then the request button. It's fast and effective, but once again, doesn't really seem particularly superior to just using the mobile website, and by doing that you won't be relying on a third-party application. Still, if you believe the extra convenience is worth it, you can download Fastlane free from its website.

Uber with Office 365
Uber also collaborated with Microsoft to launch an integration with Office 365. If you're an Office 365 subscriber, Uber uses the Outlook APIs, and you can use the calendar there to set up cab rides. You can set an Uber ride reminder for meetings on your calendar, and you'll get a pop-up when it's time to go. You can then swipe to confirm the ride, and the car will be on its way.

How to book Ola without phone app

Booking an Ola without a phone is simple, just follow these steps:

1. On your PC, open the browser and go to www.olacabs.com
2. In the box on the left, enter your pickup and drop locations, and when you want the cab.
3. Click on Search Cabs.

You'll get a list of cars, showing prices and time to pickup, so you can choose whatever suits you best. The booking will show Cash as the payment option - click on it to sign in with the following steps:

1. Enter your phone number in the prompt.
2. You'll receive an OTP on your phone which you enter here.

This seems to be a one time process which was not repeated for us, so the second time you try and book a cab you likely won't have to sign in again.

One word of caution - the cancel booking function (while trying to make the booking) on the PC browser doesn't seem to work, and we accidentally booked three cabs at the same time, and then had to cancel them one by one using the app on our phone.

Canon EOS M100 Mirrorless Camera With 24.2-Megapixel Sensor Launched in India: Price, Specifications

Canon on Monday launched expanded its M series mirrorless camera models and brought the EOS M100 to the Indian market with a price tag of Rs. 39,995. The interchangeable-lens camera was originally announcedback in August with a 24.2-megapixel image sensor. Additionally, the company has launched its new range of lenses that includes the TS-E50mm f/2.8L Macro, TS-E90mm f/2.8L Macro, and TS-E135mm f/4L macro and EF85mm f/1.4L IS USM, and Macro Twin Lite MT-26EX-RT.

The Canon EOS M100 features a 24.2-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor and a DIGIC 7 processor. The proprietary image processor enables the camera to shoot still images with 4fps burst mode and up to 6.1fps using fixed focus. There is Dual-Pixel CMOS autofocus to let users capture moving subjects with precision. The camera also has a 3-inch touch panel LCD screen and includes a Creative Assist feature that brings easy editing and connectivity options. There are six Creative Assist settings that have all frequently used options.

Canon has provided an ISO range of 100-25600 on the EOS M100. Also, the camera has features such as in-camera RAW conversion, self-portrait mode, and a list of creative features. There is Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and NFC on the connectivity front. Besides, the camera has 60p full-HD video recording support and weighs 302 grams (body only).

With its 3.0-inch tilt-type LCD that rotates 180 degrees, the camera takes selfies to a whole new level. You can pair the Canon EOS M100 with one of the latest TS-E series lenses. The TS-E50mm f/2.8L Macro, the TS-E90mm f/2.8L Macro, and the TS-E135mm f/4L Macro all are priced at Rs. 1,72,995, while the EF85mm f/1.4L USM comes with a price tag of Rs. 1,17,995 and the Macro Twin Lite MT-26EX-RT is priced at Rs. 64,999.

Airtel Now Offers 'Unlimited Calls', 1GB Data for 28 Days at Rs. 199

Fulfilling the demand of heavy-data subscribers and taking on competitors like Reliance Jio and Vodafone, Bharti Airtel has now launched a new prepaid tariff that is priced at Rs. 199 and comes with a validity of 28 days. The new Rs. 199 pack comes days after Vodafone announced its new tariff of an identical denomination.

Under the new pack, Airtel is offering its prepaid subscribers unlimited local and STD calls, unlimited incoming calls on roaming, unlimited local and national SMS, and 1GB of 3G/4G data for 28 days at a charge of Rs. 199. All these benefits are applicable to both existing and new Airtel prepaid subscribers.

It is worth noting here that the new Rs. 199 tariff is available only in select circles, including Chennai, Delhi NCR, Mumbai, and Karnataka. Also, the pack is yet to be available through My Airtel app for all subscribers in the selected circles. You can, however, get the pack directly from Airtel's site that lists all its benefits and provides online recharge option.

Earlier this week, Vodafone launched its Rs. 199 prepaid pack with benefits such as 1GB data per day with a validity of 28 days. The Pune-based telco also offered unlimited local and STD calls albeit with a limit of up to 250 minutes per day and 1,000 minutes per week. If the limit exceeds, subscribers will be charged at 30 paisa per minute for subsequent calls. Unlike the latest pack by Airtel, the Rs. 199 pack by Vodafone is limited to its Delhi NCR circle.

In addition to the new unlimited pack, Airtel has reportedly launched a pack of Rs. 157 that offers 3GB of 3G/4G data for 27 days. This pack is yet to be listed on Airtel's site. However, folks at Telecom Talk have spotted its existence through My Airtel app.

Airtel is also offering 1GB data for a day at Rs. 49 to let its prepaid subscribers have enough quota to stream online videos or download games or any other content from the Web. The Rs. 49 pack is available from My Airtel app.

UK Cyber Agency Targets Kaspersky in Warning on Russian Software

Britain's main cyber-security agency on Friday warned British government agencies to avoid using antivirus software from Russian companies, the latest in a series of moves targeting Moscow-based security software maker Kaspersky Lab.

In a letter to departmental permanent secretaries, the director of the UK National Cyber Security Centre, Ciaran Martin, said Russian-made anti-virus software should not be used in systems containing information that would harm national security if it was accessed by the Russian government.

He said his agency is in talks with Kaspersky Lab to develop a system for reviewing its products for use in Britain.

Kaspersky's antivirus software was banned from US government networks earlier this year on concerns the company has close ties to intelligence agencies in Moscow and that its software could be used to enable Russian spying.

"We are in discussions with Kaspersky Lab ... about whether we can develop a framework that we and others can independently verify," Martin said in the letter, which was publicly released.

Kaspersky Lab said in a statement that it looked forward to working with the NCSC on the issue.

Kaspersky has strongly denied allegations about the safety of its products or ties to the Russian government, saying it has become a scapegoat in the midst of rising tensions between Washington and Moscow.

British bank Barclays said on Saturday it had stopped offering Kaspersky antivirus products to customers.

"Even though this new guidance isn't directed at members of the public, we have taken the decision to withdraw the offer of Kaspersky software from our customer website," it said in a statement.
